Getting Ready for Your Screening

To ensure the most accurate results, it is essential that you adhere to the following pre-screening requirements. These steps help optimise the scan and provide the best possible insights into your breast health.

Eligibility for screening

Unfortunately, we cannot scan pregnant or lactating women, nor those who are currently on their period. Please book your screening at a time when you are not menstruating.

We cannot screen those under the age of 18 without a GP referral and with the accompaniment of a responsible adult

Weeks and months before your screening

If you have undergone radiation treatment, it must be at least two months before your screening. Similarly, chemotherapy should not have been administered within the seven days leading up to your scan. Any breast surgeries must have been completed at least two months before your appointment to ensure accurate imaging.

The day before your scan

To prepare your body for the most precise results, avoid consuming alcohol the day before and on the day of your screening. Additionally, refrain from breast stimulation, mammography, ultrasound, or any other breast, neck, or chest treatments within 24 hours before your appointment, as these can affect the accuracy of the scan.

On the day of your scan

In the hour before your appointment, avoid hot showers or baths, as they can influence thermal imaging results. Do not apply perfumes, deodorants, or lotions to your chest or underarms, as these substances can interfere with the scan. Refrain from yoga, massages, or exercise for at least three hours beforehand, as increased circulation may affect the screening results. Hot food or drinks should also be avoided for at least an hour before your screening.

Additional last minute essentials

For convenience and ease of undressing, we recommend wearing separate tops and bottoms. Smoking or chewing tobacco should be avoided within two hours of your appointment. Additionally, refrain from shaving your armpits or chest within two hours of your scan. If you develop a fever on the morning of your appointment, please inform us by logging into your Ada & Me account and selecting ‘Change my appointment'.

I was really pleased with the scanning process and the team were so kind and helpful. The best part was it was completely non-invasive – a real bonus as I have always struggled with painful mammograms.
